Well, the sun shone against all the odds, the aircraft came (over 100 registrations noted on Saturday alone) and a jolly good time was indeed had by all - the 2009 July 'weekender' truly was classic Breighton.

This year's event ran with three main themes: "1940's Weekend" where period dress, ration books for refreshments and a 'big band' hangar dance were the order of the day, the "75th Anniversary of the Jungmann biplane" which attracted aircraft from as far away as Switzerland no less, and "20th Anniversary of the Real Aeroplane Company" which, as you might expect, pitched Glasair against Mew Gull, Aeronca 100 against balloons and Historic Formula One against taxying Cessna...! Brilliant stuff.

(BELOW) Safely down at Breighton - just a quick stretch of the legs before launching again for the spot-landing competition. A real mixed bag of aircraft took part with one 'emergency' landing ("I'm coming in - there's a bee in the cockpit!"). Regular 'Bugle' contributor Neil Fletcher was the eventual winner - well done Neil!

Sunday was overcast by comparison but there was nothing dull about the action with Maurice Hammond's two P-51 Mustangs, Harvard and Stearman flying in from Norfolk, a brace of aerobatic aircraft strutting their stuff as only they can and numerous sorties flown by the home team throughout the day.

(BELOW) Military vehicle 'fanatic' Steve Carr get's to use 'Jessie the Jeep' for its intended purpose, leading 2 P-51 Mustang's to their dispersal. Thanks to Steve for the drivers eye view.

Thanks to everyone who helped to make the weekend special, and especially to those who helped compile this report (Steve Carr, Neil Fletcher, Nessa Carr and Andy Wood).
